It is mind boggling when you think about the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit how they are all one, yet have different attributes. I want to introduce this concept to you for your review. For all practical purposes, the Father runs the show. He sent His son Jesus to this earth. Jesus said that the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby for us believers. I like to think of the Holy Spirit as the action person. Wherever the action is, He is present! We see the Holy Spirit in the first verse of Genesis, He was moving, brooding and hovering over the face of the deep waiting for a command from God!
If we look in the Old Testament, we find where the Spirit came upon people. Samson was a good example as the Spirit of the Lord began to move upon him at times. The Spirit of the Lord came upon him mightily and he went into battle and was victorious. Notice it came upon him at times. The Spirit of the Lord came upon many people in the Old Testament.
Now we look at the New Testament and the ministry of Jesus. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Jesus states, to preach the gospel, heal the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, deliverance to those who are oppressed and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." (Luke 4:18) Jesus tells His apostles that it is to their advantage that He go away, so that He can send the Helper to them.
We now have Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father. In the Old Testament, the Father and the Holy Spirit resided in Heaven. Now we have the Father and Jesus in heaven and the Holy Spirit in believers on this earth. This helps illustrate the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Acts they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. "But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him." (1 John 2:27) This reminds me of the verse in John 14:26, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you." These verses both say that the anointing and the Holy Spirit both will teach you all things. Do you see a correlation? I think the Holy Spirit is vitally linked to power and the anointing.
There are two common mistakes people make about the Holy Spirit I would like to present to you to clarify. First the Holy Spirit was sent and He has stayed. If you want to find the Holy Spirit He resides in you! When the Spirit of the Lord comes upon you, He will come from inside of your reborn spirit to get upon you for ministry. A good example of this is in Acts 6:5, "Stephen a man full of faith and full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit." As your faith grows so will the amount of anointing that will flow out of you.
Second, the Holy Spirit does not convict Christians of their sins! There are only two types of people that God sees- righteous and unrighteous. Saved and unsaved! If you are unsaved the Holy Spirit, will convict you of sin. That sin being the sin that will keep you out of heaven- unbelief. John 16:8-9 explains this. Verse 8 says He will convict the world of sin. If you are saved you are no longer in the world. This verse is talking about unsaved people. When I was in the world, I couldn't really say that I felt like I was sinning. Yet I always came back to a place where I was never satisfied. There was a void in my life. Yes, the Holy Spirit was convicting me of the fact that there was a void and that void was my unbelief of the Savior Jesus. I confessed Him as Lord and Savior and my void was filled. Praise God! Think of the Holy Spirit as being your Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, and Standby- not the convictor of your sins!
Call on Him and He will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know, do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of or understand. You are just one revelation away from releasing more anointing. Step out so that you can step up! You must leave where you are to get to where you are going! The precious Holy Spirit is your friend. Get to know Him He is the one who will lead you, and guide you into all things. Your future is so bright in the Holy Ghost you will have to squint when He is all over you in signs, wonders and miracles. Maranatha!
